Welcome. After almost 18 years of blogging about privacy and data security breaches on PogoWasRight.org, the now-defunct PHIprivacy.net, and DataBreaches.net, I’ve decided to create a site to emphasize some concerns about insufficient enforcement of laws that are supposed to promote data security, incomplete or misleading breach notification letters, and the general lack of transparency about incident response.
Note the site’s tagline, which is a quotation attributed to Stephanie Klein: “Tell the truth, or someone will tell it for you.” If entities lie about their data breaches or mislead the public, we will try to provide more accurate and complete information. In some cases, Breaches may file watchdog complaints with federal regulators or state attorneys general.
